Games and Economic Behavior
Games and Economic Behavior (GEB) is a general-interest journal devoted to the advancement of game theory and its applications. Game theory applications cover a wide range of subjects in social, behavioral, mathematical and biological sciences, and game theoretic methodologies draw on a large variety of tools from those sciences.Publication criteria: GEB publishes general-interest papers that significantly advance the frontiers of game theory and its applications. This is a high bar, but the journal's editors are open-minded about the interpretations and trade-offs involved. For example, a paper in industrial organization that deals with corporate takeover might be of general game-theoretic interest if it contributes to our understanding of coalition formation. Similarly, the analysis of games played by computer algorithms might be relevant to modeling strategic thinking. The editors are also open-minded about the frontiers. They are happy to publish papers that, while not in currently popular areas, lead to significant new frontiers in game theory and applications. Authors are therefore encouraged to make a clear case, in the paper itself, that it meets these publication criteria. Evaluation procedure: Each paper is initially assigned by GEB's chief editor to one of the seven editors (including himself), who has final decision authority. In determining their decisions, editors consult with advisory editors and reviewers who are anonymous to the authors. The assigned editor then (non-anonymously) communicates her/his decision to the corresponding author in a decision letter, usually accompanied by one or more referees' and/or advisory editors' reports. Currently GEB publishes about 15% of the submitted papers. However, when editors decide that a submitted paper does not have a chance of meeting the journal publication criterion, they "desk-reject" the paper without going through the standard, lengthy evaluation process. Journal of Outdoor Recreation and Tourism offers a dedicated outlet for social science and natural resource research relevant to outdoor recreation and nature-based tourism.The journal publishes peer-reviewed, original research that advances our understanding of outdoor recreation and nature-based tourism in the context of sustainable outdoor leisure sites and protected area management and planning. JORT covers the entire spectrum of settings, ranging from wilderness to urban outdoor recreation opportunities.JORT is an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary journal. Articles may focus on any aspect of theory, method, or concept of outdoor recreation or nature-based tourism research, planning, or management. Interdisciplinary work is especially welcome and may be of a theoretical and/or case study nature. International Economics
International Economics publishes top-quality, original research in applied international economics. Topics covered include trade, trade policy, macroeconomics and finance. International Economics, is a peer-reviewed journal devoted to the publication of research in the area of applied international economics. The journal especially welcomes empirical contributions that include, but are not limited to, topics in international trade, commercial policy, open economy macroeconomics, international finance, exchange rates, financial and monetary policies, economic development, migration and factor movements.Other than regular submission (“Research papers”), two additional forms of submissions are offered: “Data, Tools, and Replication” and “Short communication". The journal also has a “Transfer” option from top journals.The "Data, Tools, and Replication" section is devoted to the publication of short notes presenting new and innovative datasets in the area of international economics, new tools useful for research in international economics, and/or replications of existing empirical studies in the field of international economics. As for all articles submitted to International Economics, papers for the "Data, Tools and Replication" section follow the standard refereeing process. Each exhibit (table or figure) reduces the word limit by 200 words (e.g., a manuscript with five exhibits has a maximum length of 6,000 words). A maximum of five exhibits is allowed. The first decision will be accept, accept conditional on minor (expositional) changes, reject, or desk reject. Manuscripts must be self-contained. Papers will be rejected if the editor or the referees cannot assess the paper’s contribution based solely on the main text (i.e., without referring to appendices). The current turnaround time to a first decision is 39 days, with an approximate acceptance rate of 12%. To avoid unnecessary delay for authors, the editor might decide to return the paper to the author(s) before full review if she/ he determines that the paper is not suitable for the journal. Trends in Neuroscience and Education aims to bridge the gap between our increasing basic cognitive and neuroscience understanding of learning and the application of this knowledge in educational settings. It provides a forum for original translational research on using systems neuroscience findings to improve educational outcome, as well as for reviews on basic and applied research relevant to education.Just as 200 years ago, medicine was little more than a mixture of bits of knowledge, fads and plain quackery without a basic grounding in a scientific understanding of the body, and just as in the middle of the nineteenth century, Hermann von Helmholtz, Ernst Wilhelm von Brücke, Emil Du Bois-Reymond and a few others got together and drew up a scheme for what medicine should be (i.e., applied natural science), we believe that this can be taken as a model for what should happen in the field of education. In many countries, education is merely the field of ideology, even though we know that how children learn is not a question of left or right political orientation.Contrary to the skeptics (who claim that "brain science […] is not ready to relate neuronal processes to classroom outcomes ", Cf. Hirsh-Pasek K, Bruer JT, 2007), we believe that we know today more about the neuroscience of learning than Helmholtz et al. back then knew about the body. In fact, from our perspective very little was known, as cellular pathology, microbiology and pharmacology hardly existed as domains of scientific investigation, let alone as tools for physicians. But the very idea - medicine is applied science - caught on and led to unprecedented and dramatic improvements in medicine.In our view, this is precisely what we must do in order to make progress in education. "You claim all learning is taking place in the brain. If that's so, which type of preschool is most effective? " - From a medical perspective, it is obvious that a neuroscientist cannot answer such questions alone. But it is just as clear that the answers will come from research informed by developmental cognitive neuroscience. Trends in Neuroscience and Education will foster activities on the translational research that is needed.Neuroscience is to education what biology is to medicine and physics is to architecture. Biochemistry is not enough to cure a patient, and physics is not enough to build a bridge. But you cannot perform great work, neither in medicine nor in architecture, against the laws of physics or biology.
