The official journal of the International Transportation Economics AssociationEconomics of Transportation publishes scholarly papers that make important contributions to transportation economics. The journal also publishes papers that research the interaction between transportation and other economic activities; papers that seek to promote cross fertilization with other fields of economics including labor, trade, urban economics, and industrial organization; and substantive papers on timely policy issues relating to transportation. The journal welcomes both theoretical and applied papers. Papers are welcome regardless of the originating discipline provided they contribute to the goals of the journal. Journal of Archaeological Science: Reports is aimed at all scholars, from anthropological archaeologists to scientific specialists, who are engaged with the application of scientific techniques and methods throughout the entire field of archaeology. The journal focuses on the results of scientific investigations applied to archaeological research questions, problems, and debates of wide interest and, in turn, their significance for understanding behaviors in the past. It also provides a forum, after consultation with the editors, for reviews or debates about important issues or “hot topics” in scientific archaeology and their impacts in the broader field.Journal of Archaeological Science: Reports publishes papers of excellent archaeological science, and both scientific and archaeological aspects of the research should be well represented within all manuscripts submitted to the journal. The majority of our accepted submissions are Research Articles in which a scientific technique sheds light on a clearly defined archaeological research question or debate. Shorter Communications, Reviews, and other article formats are also welcome, but interested authors are encouraged to consult with the editors prior to submitting manuscripts in these formats.Research should be demonstrably contextualized within the region and period of interest (that is, it is situated in the relevant geographic, chronological, historical, etc. contexts) and, ideally, within a topic or question of broad interest or significance to a global audience. Applications of scientific techniques must be underpinned by clear archaeological or methodological research questions and be set within established and/or developing research frameworks. The submission of papers focused around the analysis of single objects or small sample sizes (e.g., a low number of sherds) and papers situated in conservation studies are discouraged, unless of exceptional quality and/or international significance.Submiss... within our publishing scope will be considered by an Editor-in-Chief and, after passing desk review, will be reviewed by at least two peer reviewers. Submissions might also be handled by Associate Editors with relevant subject expertise. Journal of Financial Intermediation
The Journal of Financial Intermediation seeks to publish research in the broad areas of financial intermediation, investment banking, corporate finance, financial contracting, financial regulation and credit markets.Editorial Philosophy The new Editorial Board of the Journal of Financial Intermediation seeks to streamline the editorial process by implementing an active desk-rejection policy. We anticipate that a significant fraction of papers will be rejected without a detailed reviewing process. In this way, papers going out for reviews have a significant chance of eventually being published. While the policy is meant to minimize the burden on reviewers, submitters should expect their papers to receive a more thorough treatment in the editorial process, conditional on being refereed. Desk-rejected articles will NOT be refunded the submission fee.Reducing noise and increasing transparency of the refereeing process is an overarching goal of the new editorial policy. In this vein, the JFI is simplifying its editorial board structure and expanding the board of associate editors. Submitters may now expect their papers to be reviewed almost exclusively by members of the editorial board, or by researchers whose expertise is at par with that of members of the board. At the same time, the submission process is now single-blind, implying that author identity will not be hidden. Submitters may choose the Managing Editor in charge of their submission. As the benchmark sub-disciplinary quarterly, the Journal of Historical Geography publishes articles on all aspects of historical geography and cognate fields in the social sciences, arts, and humanities. As well as hosting original research papers and special issues of interest to a wide international and interdisciplinary readership, the journal encourages agenda-setting interventions into methodological and conceptual debates and new challenges facing researchers in the field. Published on behalf of the Association for Comparative Economic StudiesThe mission of the Journal of Comparative Economics is to lead the new orientations of research in comparative economics. Before 1989, the core of comparative economics was the comparison of economic systems with in particular the economic analysis of socialism in its different forms. In the last fifteen years, the main focus of interest of comparative economists has been the transition from socialism to capitalism. In recent years, mostly as a result of the transition experience, a new orientation of comparative economics has emerged that focuses on the comparison of the economic effects of the various institutions of capitalism, be it in the legal sphere (common law versus civil law), in the political sphere (different types of democracies and electoral regimes) or in the sphere of culture, social norms, etc. This new orientation is a natural development following the very diverse experience of transitions from socialism to capitalism. The transition experience has indeed shown with a vengeance the importance of institutions in the process of economic development.Question... raised along these new orientations include: what institutions are critical (courts, credit markets, good regulations, etc) for successful growth?; how should institutions be measured (subjective surveys, particular laws on the books, etc); why are certain institutions, such as courts and regulatory culture, slow-moving while others, such as constitutions and electoral procedures, relatively fast-moving; why is there so much cross-sectional variance in the quality of institutions, and what kinds of initial conditions or historic natural experiments can be employed to estimate the causal impact of institutions on economic performance? Affiliated with European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction (EARLI)Much of the most important learning happens through social interaction. Learning, Culture and Social Interaction is an international journal devoted to the publication of high-quality research on learning within, and through, social practices. Its particular focus is on understanding how learning and development are embedded in social and cultural activities, and how individuals and collective practices are transformed through learning.Such understanding requires a careful analysis of learning in social context, and of the communicative processes involved. In-depth studies of interaction in schools (in various subjects and settings), universities, work-places, voluntary organizations, public agencies, hospitals, laboratories and other institutional settings will be welcome, as well as studies of informal settings such as everyday conversations, play settings, youth clubs, games and other cultural practices. Longitudinal studies of learning trajectories are relevant as are analyses of contexts and interactional patterns that hinder learning. The important point is that the relationships between cultures, social interaction and learners (and teachers) are in focus.The term 'interaction' includes forms of communication which take place through technologies of various kinds (telephone, the Internet, presentation technologies and so on). Interaction between people and artefacts, insofar as they address learning, are also relevant. Thus, the focus is not exclusively on face-to-face interaction. Also, issues of collective forms of learning characterizing systematic change, institutional development and communities of practice are central for the journal.The journal is multidisciplinary and invites scholars from relevant disciplines including psychology, anthropology, linguistics, sociology, communication studies and all areas of educational research. Data may come from ethnographies, experimental approaches, intervention studies, case studies, interviews, questionnaires, self-reports, cross-cultural comparisons, archives etc. Articles of different kinds will be welcome: reports of empirical research, theoretically orientated analyses, contributions to method, literature reviews, meta-analyses of research etc. There will be no restrictions when it comes to age levels or social settings.
